OPEN CALL
FOR VOLUNTEERS
Queer Leiden University’s Curatorial Team is excited to announce the second edition of our exhibition for queer people by queer people and we invite you to come help us and support our amazing artists!
The Geobacter, from which the title “The Queer Geobacter” derives inspiration, is a microbial species that has evolved to be able to eat and digest toxic waste in radioactive environments. We propose a metaphorical approach to this exchange to encourage conversations about how practices of consumption relate to queer survival. We have been inspired to explore the concept of the queer Geobacter to think about how we as queer people can learn to adapt, digest and find substance and fullness amidst difficult conditions or in situations of political dyspepsia.
With this exhibition, we aim to honour the resilience of queer communities under difficult circumstances, while highlighting internal processes of queer survival. By drawing inspiration from the remarkable adaptability of the Geobacter, we invite you to explore the complexities of queer resistance and adaptability in the face of societal oppression.

The last day of the exhibition, the 24th of May, is during HOOGTIJ, an art festival in which the public can visit 24 art locations for free, allowing your artworks and the exhibition the opportunity to reach a bigger audience.
