LOOKING • FOR  ARTISTS

Queer Leiden University and KABK students present

OPEN CALL

Everything New Under the Sun

“So, we are out of the closet, but into what? What new unbounded spatiality? The room, the den, the attic, the basement, the house, the bar, the university, some new enclosure whose door, like Kafka’s door, produces the expectation of fresh air and a light of illumination that never arrives?” - Judith Butler, "Imitation and Gender Insubordination," The Lesbian and Gay Studies Reader (Routledge, 1993), pp 309.

Queerness is a palimpsest of expressions and experiences. Stepping into the spatiality of its culture and carrying it at the core of our selves does not happen the same way twice. Embracing queerness is welcoming the wave of the unknown that comes with stepping out of the so-called closet. Queer living is creating new spaces of expression and shelter, museums and bunkers.

With the exhibition « Everything New Under The Sun » we want to allow queer artists to show us their worlds, their messy rooms or meticulous gardens, whatever you have built for yourself, in whatever form of expression. We want to center ambiguity and life lived across definitions.

Alongside Leiden University’s Diversity and Inclusion Office, our team from Queer Leiden University and KABK wants to take this opportunity to give voice and expressive space to our artists within the queer community. Join us in this experience and help us create a unique art event in the Hague!
